Paper slitter rewinder machine-characteristics and application

Paper slitter rewinder machine is a specialized machine used mainly in the paper and printing industry. The operation of this device involves mechanical cutting of material from the main roll into ribbons with different parameters and winding them on smaller rolls – bobbins. Modern slitting machines are equipped with systems including: automatic positioning of knives and may differ in the cutting technique used, efficiency, dimensions of supported rollers and additional supporting equipment. The slitting machines we produce are equipped with state-of-the-art control systems compliant with Industry 4.0 standards and enable remote control and control of machine operating parameters. The SIEMENS IoT modules used take over the role of handling production orders and also support the operator during daily operation thanks to the functions of predefined recipes for a given type of material. What else is worth knowing about them?

How does a paper slitter work?

The paper slitter sconsists of an unwinding module, which can be built into the machine’s structure or constitute a separate unwinding station. The material can be attached using a drum shaft, expansion shaft, pneumatic or mechanical cones or pins. Another essential element of the slitting machine is the cutting system, which, depending on the desired degree of automation, is available in a version with knives set manually by the operator or fully automatic. After cutting, the material is wound using e.g. expansion shafts or more complex friction shafts. When winding large diameters and masses of bobbins, a winding system is used in the support, where the wound bobbins are supported on 2 large diameter shafts. After the winding process is completed, the finished bobbins are collected, for example, using dedicated manipulators, which significantly shorten the time and increase the comfort of operating the machine. Paper slitter machines are also equipped with web guiding systems, edge cutting systems, deionizers and pneumatic clamps on rewinders.

Paper sliter rewinder-types of cutting

The paper slitter is a very easy-to-use and safe machine because employees do not have direct contact with sharp elements. The following types of longitudinal cutting are most often used in the mentioned devices:

  • rotary shear slitting
  • razor slitting
  • crush cut slitting
  • hot knife slitting

The most common method of cutting paper is rotary shear slitting using circular knives. It is a very easy-to-use and effective method that ensures high quality and repeatability of cutting. For high-performance devices where the speed and precision of paper processing is a priority, shaft wrapping cutting systems are used. When choosing a method, it is worth taking into account the characteristics of the material and the specificity of a given workplace. An important parameter will be not only the ease of use or speed of positioning the knives, but also the cutting tolerance we want to achieve.

Paper slitter – application

Paper slitting machines can be freely configured to meet customer requirements. These are universal devices that have a wide range of applications and are often used to process paper, cardboard or various types of labels. The product obtained in this way can be used in many industries related to packaging design and production. The paper slitting machines produced by our company are distinguished by their compact design and technologically advanced support systems. All slitting machine models are equipped with a clear control panel and enable obtaining a high-quality final product.

Special paper slitter rewinders are machines that are used to cut and form paper sheets into rolls of various sizes and shapes. The paper is first wound onto the core and then cut to the appropriate length using special knives. It is then formed on the core to the required shape using a mold or stamping tool.

Paper slitting machines are often used in the paper industry to produce various paper items such as sheets, rolls, cartons and others. They are also used in other industries such as advertising, printing and packaging where sheets of paper of specific sizes and shapes are needed. Paper slitter machines can be manual or automatic, and can also be equipped with various additional functions, such as label printers, systems for measuring paper thickness and systems for packing finished bobbins.
